Pre War
Frank Hurlstone was born in Hallow, Worcestershire in 1899, the youngest son of William and Catherine Hurlstone. On the 1901 & 1911 Censuses the family were living at North Hallow, Worcestershire where his father was Head Gardener at 'Parkfield' owned by Charles Wheeley Lea (Lea & Perrins Worcester Sauce).
He was living at Tewin Water when he enlisted in Bedford.
Wartime Service
Frank enlisted in Bedford and joined the 7th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment.
The 7th Battalion was involved in several actions during the Battle of St Quentin from 21 March 1918, however it is likely that Frank was one of the two wounded casualties recorded during action at Gentelles on 31 March.
He died of wounds on 1 April 1918 at the 41st Casualty Clearing Station and is buried in Namps-Au-Val British Cemetery, France.
Additional Information
His father received a war gratuity of £4 10s and pay owing of £8 5s 10d.
N.B. Tewin Water was a stately home at Tewin, Hertfordshire built for Alfred Beit, a wealthy diamond and gold merchant. When he died in 1906 it was passed to his brother Otto.
