Pre War

John William was born on 9 Nov 1886 (baptised 26 Dec 1886) in Little Amwell to John Huson, a butler at Haileybury College, and Emily (nee Towell).

On the 1901 Census John was living at 26, London Road, Little Amwell with his parents, elder brothers Arthur, a carpenter, Albert, a plumber, William, a telegram boy ,and sisters Emily and Kate. John was working as a carpenter on the 1911 Census, living at London Road with his parents, brothers Albert, William, now a bricklayer and his sisters Emily and Kate. John’s father died in 1912.

Wartime Service

There are no Service Records for John who enlisted for the Hertfordshire Regiment as Private 5851 sometime late 1915.

He was at some time transferred to Princess Charlotte’s (Royal Berkshire) Regiment as Private 36354 in 6th (Service) Battalion. The 6th had been in France sinc Aug 1915 so it can be assumed he joined them in the field as they prepared for the Battle of Albert (I Jul – 13 Jul 1916) and was with them for their action in the Battle of Thiepval (26 -28 Sep1916). He died on 2 Oct 1916 of wounds sustained in this action.
