Edmund Guy was born 1881 to William Houghton (Auctioneer & Surveyor) and Edith Corfe Houghton. He followed his father into the same profession.

He enlisted soon after the outbreak of war on 14 Sep 1914 joining 16 Service (Public Schools) and After training as a grenadier went to France 17 Nov 1915.
