Born Highbury, London, son of George Mather and Sarah Jane.  Went to Rugby School, Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. Enrolled there in 1913.

Wartime Service

Destroyer H.M.S. Recruit was torpedoed by UB16 in the North Sea and sunk with 53 men lost.
