Pre War

Walter Hooker was born about 1892, in Aldershot, Hampshire, son of Frederick Hooker. No other information of his early life was found. It is possible his father was in the Military and the family moved with him.


In 1913, Walter enlisted in the Army. The Enlistment Register 1903-1913, records Walter Attested at Doncaster, Yorks, he gave his age as 19 years & 6 Months, born in Aldershot, Hants, and his occupation as a Coal Filler, posted to the Coldstream Guards with the service number 10013.

Wartime Service

At the outbreak of War, Walter was serving with the 1st Battalion, Coldstream Guards, the Battalion was stationed at Aldershot, Hampshire.


They were mobilised for War and moved to France on 25/26 August 1914, as part of the British Expeditionary Force. He was Killed in Action the following month on 14 September 1914, possible at the Battle of the Aisne, (12–15 September 1914). 

Additional Information

The value of his effects was £3-9s-3d, Pay Owing, and £5, War Gratuity which went to his father Frederick Hooker.
