Son of George Frederick and the late Louisa (nee TOOVEY) HOOKER.
His parents married 1892 in the St Pancras, London, district. Louisa died 1905 in Watford aged 41, and was buried 8 April in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford. George remarried 2 June 1906 at St Mary’s, Watford, to Emma DOLAMORE. He died 1947 in Watford aged 79, and was buried 17 July in Vicarage Road Cemetery; Emma died 1958 in Watford aged 95, and was buried 7 October, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Edward was born 19 December 1899 in Watford, and baptised 3 May 1901 at St Mary’s, Watford. He attended Victoria Junior School, Watford; then Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 6 September 1909 to 19 December 1913.
On the 1901 Census, aged 1 he lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1911 Census, at school aged 11, he still lived in Watford, with his father, step-mother and two siblings.
Recorded as born in Watford and enlisted in Bedford.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Bedford 18 January 1918: a munitions worker aged 18, 5’9″ tall, his next-of-kin was his father of Watford. He was called up 4 February 1918, and was first in the 3rd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment; was posted to the 1/8th (Cyclists) Battalion Essex Regiment 5 February 1918, Private 50135; posted to the East Surrey Regiment 11 July 1918; and transferred to the 2/23rd (County of London) Battalion London Regiment 14 July 1918, which he joined in the Field 15 July 1918.
He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was missing presumed killed in action.
