Son of Arthur Wellington and Elizabeth Ann (nee BUTT) DAVIES of Watford.
His parents married 23 September 1878 at St Marylebone Parish Church, Marylebone, London. Arthur died 1926 in Watford aged 71, and was buried 9 February in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Elizabeth died 1936 in the Watford district aged 80, and was buried 27 April, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Henry was born 2 May 1887 in Harrow-on-the-Hill, Middx, and baptised 5 June 1887 at St Mary’s, Harrow. He attended first St Andrew’s Infants’ School, Watford; then St Andrew’s Boys’ School from 22 January 1894 to 7 November 1895; finally Callowland Board School, Watford, from 6 January 1896 to 1 August 1901.
On the 1891 Census, aged 3 he lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1901 Census, aged 13 he still lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1911 Census, a hosier assistant aged 23, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in London, and was formerly Private 26814 Bedfordshire Regiment. He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.
Additional Information
There is a Death announcement for Henry in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 12 August 1916; plus In Memoriams in the issues dated 28 July 1917, 27 July 1918 and 2 August 1919.
Unfortunately, Henry’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
