On the 1901 Census the family of parents, Sarah (born 1891), Frederick, William (born 1894), Alice (born 1895), Robert (born 1897) and Edward (born 1901) were living at Bury Road, Kentford, Mildenhall.

On the 1911 Census the family of parents, father was a horsekeeper on farm, Frederick, William, Robert (all farm labourers), Edward, Hector (born 1902) and nephew Herbert (born 1908) were living at Highfields Farm, Caldecote, Cambs.

Resident of Letchworth when he enlisted in Hitchin.

Wartime Service

No Service Record was found for Frederick who enlisted in the Bedfordshire Regiment as Private 14379 shortly after the outbreak of the Great War. Following his training on 9 Apr 1915 he went to join 1st Battalion, which had been in France since 15 Aug 1914 and were part of 15th Brigade, 5th Division. At that time they were engaged in the 2nd Battle of Ypres.

Frederick was killed in action on 5 May 1915 probably as a result of the daily attrition of troops in the trenches from bombardment, sniping etc. His remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
