Born in 1883 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool, Lancashire son of E J Davies and Mrs. Mary Ashley (formerly Davies) and living there in 1891 and 1901. He was a solicitor’s clerk; husband of Blanche Wikmore Davies, of Ely House, 97 Ware Road, Hertford. He later lived at “Mena”, Fairfax Road, Hertford. He became Chief Clerk at the County Education Office.
Wartime Service
He enlisted on 1 Apr 1908 at Hertford as 1924 Private in the Hertfordshire Territorials and attended annual training camp. He was embodied as Sergeant on 5 Aug 1914 in the 1st Hertfordshires and was transferred to Royal Engineers on 16 Jan 1915. He was a signalling instructor. He embarked with the British Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on 18 Jul 1915 and arrived at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli on 20 Aug 1915 and was then discharged on 14 Apr 1916 after 8 years’ service. He appears to have rejoined and was killed in action in Belgium.
