Born on 23 Jan 1888 in Gatehouse-of-Fleet, Kircudbright son of the Hon. William James and Evelyn Frances (Carey) Hewitt later of St. Colme House, Aberdour, Fife. Educated at Haileybury College 1903–06. He was unmarried.

Wartime Service

Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant on 26 Feb 1908 and promoted to Lieutenant on 12 Mar 1910. Entered France on 26 Aug 1914 and was killed in action at La Boutillerie during the first Battle of Ypres.

Additional Information

Brother of 2nd Lieutenant William George Hewitt who was killed in action only two weeks earlier on 13 Oct 1914 at Neuve Chapelle.
