Pre War

George Cecil Henry was born in 1887. (Possibly born in Hastings, the son of Thomson and Cora Augusta Henry).

He married May Dorothy Norris on 4 August 1917 in Great Berkhamsted, Herts. Her address was given following his death as 35 Cowper Road, Berkhamsted, Herts.

Wartime Service

He joined the Officer Training Corps as Private 10255, was later commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant with the 3rd Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, and served in Egypt from 8 November 1917.

He died from wounds on 9 December 1917 aged 30 and is buried in the Jerusalem War Cemetery, Israel.

Additional Information

His widow received a war gratuity of £5 and pay owing of £70 15s 1d.

N.B. Original CWGC records show that George was listed as being in the 15th Battalion of the Suffolk Regiment although the official record is shown as the 3rd Battalion.  Most historical sources suggest that the 3rd Battalion did not leave England throughout WW1, whereas the 15th (Suffolk Yeomanry) Battalion was formed in Egypt on 5 January 1917.
