Thomas Eric Henderson was born in 1875 in Islington, London, the son of John Thomas and Theresa Henderson (nee Hare) and one of seven children.
On the 1881 Census the family were living at 34 Highbury Hill, Islington. His father's occupation was given as retired silk manufacturer. By 1891 they had moved to 22 Aberdeen Park, Highbury, Islington at which time his father's occupation was Director of Publishing and he was living on his own means.
Thomas was educated at University College School, and graduated with First Class Honours in June 1893.
He entered Guy's Hospital as a dental student in May 1910 and qualified in May 1913. He took the First Year's Dental Prize in 1911, and the Second Year's Prize in 1912. He was Assistant Demonstrator of Dental Metallurgy from May - July 1911, and Assistant Dental House-Surgeon from January to March 1912.
In 1911 his parents, brother Bernard and sisters Annie and Kathleen were were living at Fordell, Shooters Way, Northchurch, Nr Berkhamsted, Herts.
Wartime Service
In September 1914, aged 38 years, Thomas joined the Public Schools Battalion, and in July 1915 received a commission. The following year he went to France.
During the attack on the eastern edge of Delville Wood on 31 August 1916, he was reported missing but it was later confirmed that he was killed in action, aged 40. At the end of the war his body was found, exhumed and reburied in Delville Wood Cemetery, Longueval, France.
