Son of Frederick and Hannah (nee PAVIOUR) HEDGES of Watford.
His parents married 29 August 1892 at St Mary’s, Aylesbury, Bucks. Frederick died 1947 in the Brighton, Sussex, district aged 83; Hannah died 1949 in the Hove, Sussex, district aged 84.
William was born 18 December 1896 in Aylesbury, and baptised 12 February 1897 at St Mary’s, Aylesbury. He attended St John’s C of E School, Aylesbury, from 27 June 1901.
On the 1901 Census, aged 5 he lived in Aylesbury, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1911 Census, a labourer aged 14, he still lived in Aylesbury, with his parents and four siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford, and was formerly Private 235007 Suffolk Regiment. He was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action at Licourt.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, William’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
