Pre War

George Heaton was born in Derby, England, the son of John and Eliza Heaton, and husband of Helen Heaton, of Cusack Street, Wangaratta, Victoria. He worked as a Managing law clerk and was 38 when he enlisted. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted on 1 April 1916 as a Lieutenant with the 7th Battalion, 17th Reinforcement.  His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A14 Euripdes on 4 April 1916.


He was killed in action on 4 October 1917 but his body was not recovered for burial and his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
