Pre War
Alexander was born in the Lambeth area, possibly Herne Hill/Stockwell, in 1893 the son of Alexander and Ada Florence Haysman.
In 1901 the three of them were living 38 Mayall Road, Lambeth, and Alexander senior was a Coffee Stall Keeper. In 1911 Alexander junior age 18, was a House Painter, living with his father, now a Glazier, at 25 Effra Parade, Lambeth.
His mother has not been traced. Alexander junior married Marion Maskell in 1913 and they had two children, Marion Marwood born in 1913, and Alexander H M born in 1915. When her husband died Marion was living Mount Vernon Cottage, Batchworth Heath, Rickmansworth.
Wartime Service
Enlisted in Lambeth.
The 153rd Brigade RFA was raised in the Croydon and South London area in mid 1915 and landed Le Havre in November 1915, joining 36th (Ulster) Division. The Division fought at the Battle of Albert in 1915 and at the Battle of Messines 7th to 14th of June 1917.
It is not known whether Alexander received his fatal wounds at Messines or later, presumably during one of the daily exchanges of shellfire.
