Henry Walter Clifton HAYDEN was born in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire in 1901, son of John Hayden a Labourer and Rose Mary Hayden (nee Templeman). The youngest of six children although two died in infancy.
Baptised Henry Walter Clifton Hayden, on 28th August 1901, in the Parish of Waltham Cross, Herts.
1911 Census records Henry as Clifford aged 9, at school, living with his parents and brother Frederick (15) at, 10 Cottage Gardens, Waltham Cross, Herts.
His farther John Hayden passed away on 7th December 1912, in Cheshunt, Herts, aged 53.
Wartime Service
We believe Henry enlisted towards the end of the war. Serving with the Royal Army Service Corps, issued with the service number ER/59393. At the time of his death, we believe he was serving in Egypt and died of Pneumonia on 30th October 1920, aged 19.
He is buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. Grave Ref; A. 154.
Additional Information
As indicated above we believe Henry enlisted towards the end of the War, no Medal Card (MID), or SGITGW Record was found for Henry.
His effects of pay owing were split equally between his mother Rose (£7-06-00), brother Frederick (£7-06-00), Sister Florence (£7-06-00) and sister Elizabeth (£7-05-11).
His Headstone Inscription “THY WILL BE DONE” was requested by a, Mr J. Hayden, Jnr., 256 High Road, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire. We are unable to identify the Mr. J Hayden Jnr. His father John died in 1912, and brother James died in 1891.
