Pre War

Henry (Harry) Hart was born on 14th September 1897, in Aldenham, Herts, the son of Henry and Sarah Jane (nee Stratford) Hart. One of twelve children, five died in infancy. His father was a Domestic Gardener.


He was Baptised Henry Horace Hart, on 7 November 1897, in the Parish Church, Aldenham.


1901 Census records Henry aged 3, living with his parents, sisters Sarah (11) and Lillian (5) at, near the Church, Aldenham.


1911 Census has Henry aged 13, at school, living with his parents and 4 siblings, William (9), Dorothy (7), Frederick (4) and Edith (2) at, near the Church, Aldenham.

Wartime Service

Henry enlisted as Harry Hart, at Bedford. Posted to the Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridges Own) with the service number G/28133.


He was Killed in Action on 23rd April 1917, he has no known grave and is Commemorated on the Arras Memorial to the missing in France.

Additional Information

His father Henry was awarded a Dependents Pension of 4/- a week from 4th June 1918. The value of his effects was £5-3s-10d, Pay Owing and £3, War Gratuity which also went to his father Henry Hart.
