Pre War

Charles William Harrison was born in Bermondsey, (Southwark) London in 1894 to William and Jane Harrison and baptised at St Stephen's, Walworth on 15 July 1894. His father was a farrier and they lived at 34 Marcia Road.


On the 1911 Census he was living at 133 South Street, Bishop's Stortford with his aunt and uncle, Joseph and Mary Dixon, and working as a Fur Blowing Machine Minder for a Hatter's Furrier.

Wartime Service

He joined 1st Bn, Hertfordshire Regiment and served in France from 6 November 1914.

He died of wounds at Bethune on 19 May 1915 at 23rd Field Ambulance, probably from wounds received the previous day at the Battle of Festubert.

Additional Information

His father William received a £3 war gratuity and pay owing of £7 17s 3d.
