Pre War

Son of Robert and Emma (nee SEABROOK) HARE of Watford.

His parents married 20 October 1888 at All Saints, King’s Langley, Herts. Emma died 1929 in Watford aged 65, and was buried 16 May in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Robert died 1949 in Watford aged 81, and was buried 4 July, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Thomas was born 1897 in Watford, and baptised 14 April 1897 at St Mary’s, Watford. He resided in Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 4 he lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1911 Census, aged 14 he still lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Bedford; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action in Rossignol Wood near Hebuterne by hostile artillery.

Additional Information

There is an article about and a Death announcement for Thomas in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 1 September 1917; plus In Memoriams in the issues dated 10 August 1918 and 9 August 1919.

Unfortunately, Thomas’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
