Pre War

William West Hardwick was born in 1891 in Portsea, Hampshire to Thomas and Hannah Hardwick. The family were living at Washington Road, Portsea on the 1891 Census when William was 3 months old.


On the 1911 Census he was a boarder living with George and Sarah Yates in Bournemouth and working as a shop assistant at a gentleman's outfitters. 

Wartime Service

William West Hardwick enlisted into the Middlesex Regiment as a 2nd Lieutenant and served in France from 20 March 1915. 

Additional Information

£5 war gratuity was awarded to his mother Hannah and pay owing of £26 11s awarded to his father Thomas.
