Born 1890 in Brightlingsea, Essex. Son of Agneta Elizabeth Hardingham.


The 1891 Census shows him aged 2 years living with his widowed mother and elder brother in New Street, Brightlingsea, Essex and the 1901 Census shows him aged 11 years living with his widowed mother and elder brother at 71 New Street, Brighlingsea, Essex. By 1911 his mother was working as a tailoress, and Jack was working as a footman in service at a large house near Guildford in Surrey.

Wartime Service

Enlisted in Hertford, into the Bedfordshire Regiment. From his Medal Card we find he entered the Theatre of War – France on the 17th March 1915. He was killed in action on the 18th May 1915 at Festubert, France.

Additional Information

His elder brother Charles died aged 15 years. His connection to Thundridge has yet to be found perhaps he was working locally. He is referred to as John Hardingham in some Army records and the memorials records him in the 4th not the 2nd Beds. CWGC Inscri
