Born in 1898 in Hertford son of David Thomas and Florence Lily Hammond and was living in Carisbroke, 15 London Road, Hertford in 1911 and later in Garden House, 23, London Road, Hertford.


Educated at Hertford Grammar School, he worked for the County Education Department.

Wartime Service

Formerly 1929 Sapper Royal Engineers, he obtained a commission in the Northants. Regiment and was killed in action in France.
