Pre War

Son of George Alfred and Elizabeth Mary (nee COTTRILL) HALSEY of Watford.

His parents married 30 June 1894 at St Peter’s, Bushey Heath, Herts. George died 1928 in Watford aged 65, and was buried 29 July in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Elizabeth died 1930 in Watford aged 65, and was buried 31 October, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.

Frederick was born 21 December 1895 in Watford, and baptised 19 January 1896 at St Andrew’s, Watford.  He attended first Callow Land Infants’ School, Watford; then Callowland Board School from 20 January 1902 to 16 June 1903.  He resided in Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 5 he lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1911 Census, a golf caddy aged 15, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and six siblings.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 26 May 1915, and was reported missing at the Dardanelles since May, presumed killed in action.

Additional Information

There is an article about Frederick in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 29 July 1916.

His brother George died 8 July 1916 and also features on Watford Borough Roll of Honour.

Unfortunately, Frederick’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
