Born in 1890 in Powis Square, Notting Hill and baptised on 1 May 1890 in St Mark’s Church, Notting Hill son of Frederic Evans and Helen Elizabeth Hall. They were living in Cumberland Cottage, Redbourn, Herts. in 1911 but he was in India.

Wartime Service

Already commissioned in 2nd Norfolks he was in Bombay in 1911. He entered Mesopotamia on 15 Nov 1915 and was killed in action during the prolonged assault on Baghdad.

Additional Information

Brother of 2nd Lieutenant Geoffrey Evans Hall killed in action on 25 Apr 1917 in France and who also commemorated on this memorial.


Humphrey is also commemorated on a memorial stone in Redbourn (St. Mary) Churchyard - similar to his brother's. Geoffrey's reads:

HUMPHREY EVANS HALL
CAPTAIN 2ND LIEUT. THE NORFOLK REGIMENT
KILLED IN ACTION AND BURIED AT ST. ESIPHON(?) MESOPOTAMIA, NOVEMBER 24TH(*1) 1917. AGED 36 YEARS.
