Pre War

George Crichton was born in Dundee in 1884 to David Crichton, plumber, and Margaret (nee Morrison).


On the 1891 Census the family of parents, George, Mary (born 1889) and Margaret (born 1890) were living at 6, Beck Street, Dundee, Forfar.


On the 1901 Census the family of parents (David was a water inspector), George (apprentice Plumber), Mary (Jute Weaver), Margaret, Henry (born 1898) and Davina (born 1901) were living at 5, Annfield Row, Dundee, Forfar. 


On the 1911 Census George was a coal miner and and a lodger with the Scott family of John, wife Eliza Jane, Annie Scott (daughter), Charles Ronald Scott (grandson) and John Bridges (nephew) at North Biddick, Falfield, 

Wartime Service

No Service Record was found for George who had enlisted not long after the outbreak  of the Great War as Private 20430 in the Northumberland Fusliers He was posted to 11th (Service) Battalion, part of 62 Brigade, 21st Division.


While still in training in the Tring Area George fell ill and died on 10 Feb 1915 presumably in Tring War Hospitals.

Additional Information

No War Gratuity was admissible (UK service only) and arrears of 4 8s 4d was shared by his father and siblings, Henry, Mary, Margaret and Davina.
