Pre War
George Wilson was born on 15 December 1889 and baptised on 23 March 1890 in Rickmansworth, son of David and Sarah Wilson.
In 1901 the family were living at Riverside Cottages, Norfolk Road and at 114 Norfolk Road in 1911. He worked as a cowman on a farm. He was a friend of James Taylor of Rickmansworth, who was killed in 1915, and, as well as being secretary of the Bible class, was captain of the gymnastics club.
Wartime Service
George Wilson volunteered for the army in September 1914 at Marylebone, London and entered France on 12.11.1914.
The War Diaries for 28 December 1914 tell that they were in the trenches at Givenchy. The trenches were described as being very wet and the weather bad. It was a quiet day but George was apparently killed by a sniper on December 28 1914.
The Le Touret Memorial commemorates over 13 400 British soldiers who were killed from October 1914 to September 1915.
