Born in 1885 in Redbourn, Herts. son of William and Mary Anne Gurney and christened on 5 Apr 1885 in Redbourn. He was living on the Common, Redbourn in 1901 as a groom and stable man.
He married Charlotte Jane Underwood in 1908, lived in North Common, Redbourn and had one child.
After his death he was reported as formerly a gamekeeper at Childwickbury,

Enlisted at Bedford and died of wounds on the Somme.
