Pre War

William Frederick Wilmott was born in Waratah, Tasmania, the son of William and Agnes Perry. 


He lived with his wife Olive at 216 Charles Street, Launceston, Tasmania and worked as a Mechanical and Motor Engineer. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted on 27 August 1914 as a Transport Sergeant with the 12th Battalion, HQ. 


His unit embarked from Hobart, Tasmania on board HMAT A2 Geelong on 20 October 1914.  He was commissioned as a Captain in the 52nd Battalion and died of wounds on 25 April 1918, age 27. 

Additional Information

His wife, Mrs Olive T Wilmott of Totham, Granview Terrace, North Kew, Melbourne, Australia, ordered his headstone inscription: "AN ANZAC DUTY NOBLY DONE".
