Pre War
Born on 25 Jan 1894 in Hendon St. Mary’s, Middlesex son of John and Minnie Constance Growse. Educated at the United Services College and the Imperial Service College 1908-10 and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst (Sword of Honour 1916). He was a schoolmaster and lived at 108 Sunningfields Road, Hendon.
Wartime Service
He enlisted on 31 Aug 1914 Private 1815 in the 28th Bn. County of London (Artists) Territorial Force and was transferred to the 1st/28th service battalion on 27 Sep 1914. He entered France on 26 Oct 1914 and was promoted to Sergeant on 22 May 1915. Recommended for a cadetship at Sandhurst in 1916 and obtained a commission in the Northamptonshires. He died of wounds, probably in Hospital at Rouen.
Additional Information
United Services College, Westward Ho, Devon amalgamated with Imperial Service College in Windsor in 1912 and then moved to Haileybury College, Hertford Heath in 1942.
