Son of the late Henry and Jane (nee GRAVESTOCK) GROVER.
His parents married 22 December 1866 at All Saints, Leavesden, Herts. Jane died 1903 in Watford aged 57, and was buried 24 January in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Henry died 1908 in Watford aged 66, and was buried 20 June, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
William was born 7 September 1888 in Watford, and baptised 14 October 1888 at All Saints, Leavesden. He attended Callowland Board School, Watford, from 23 November 1896 to 31 January 1901.
On the 1891 Census, aged 2 he lived in Leavesden, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1901 Census, a grocery errand boy aged 12, he lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1911 Census, a factory labourer aged 22, he still lived in Watford, in the household of his sister and brother-in-law.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 28 July 1915, and died.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, William’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
