Son of William Henry and Elizabeth (nee FOSTER) WILLIAMS.
His parents married 1890 in the Watford district. William died 1938 in Watford aged 67, and was buried 28 July in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford.
John was born 1896 in Watford, and baptised 13 May 1896 at St Mary’s, Watford. He resided in Watford.
On the 1901 Census, aged 5 he lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings. On the 1911 Census, a shop boy aged 15, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and three siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme at Wagon Road near Beaumont-Hamel.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, John’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
Has a entry in the National Roll of the Great War.
