Green was gazetted on 11 December 1918.
Dan and I disagree on the next point. The remnants of the 6th Bedfordshire Regiment were absorbed into the remnants of the 1st Hertfordshire's on 22 May 1918. This is because the Herts Regiment had been devastated by a gas attack at Fonquevillers on 11 May 1918. In my opinion, this was the nucleus of the Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Regiment and explains why so many MIC's often say Beds & Herts. Dan does not agree, as he believes the Beds & Herts were formed from the amalgamation of the two regiments in 1919, which is the formal occasion. We agree to disagree on this point. But, technically, it makes Green a member of the Herts Regiment on 23 August 1918 when he was killed, which is why the CWGC show him as Hertfordshire's. Two officers, some senior NCO's and 48 Other Ranks remained at Nielles and a poignant entry in the 6 Beds War Diary states the battalion "still exists".
