Wartime Service

Oliver enlisted as a Territorial soldier in the rank of Bugler 2280 in the 1st/1st Buckingham Battalion, Oxford & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He went to France on 30 May 1915 to join his Battalion as part of 145 Brigade, 48th (South Midland) Division. In 1916 they took part in the Battles of the Somme ( Albert 1-13 Jul, Pozieres 23 Jul- 3 Sep, Ancre 13-18 Nov). Oliver acquired the Serial 265633 in the renumbering of the Territorial Force in 1917. Also in 1917 his Battalion were part of the Pursuit of the German Retreat to the Hindenburg Line (14 Mar-5 Apr) and the Battle of Langemarck (16-18 Aug 1917 3rd Ypres or Passchendaele). Oliver was killed in this last action on 16 Aug 1917.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £14 and arrears of £3 15s 4d was paid to his father Thomas.
