Royal Masonic School Memorial, Rickmansworth

Pre War

Born on 24 Jan 1888 in Penzance, Cornwall son of Wellington and Louisa Harrison (Trevelyan) Dale. Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1899-1903. After leaving school he joined the Merchant Navy and was an officer with P and O Line. He married Florence Tyers Borras on 10 Sep 1912 at Wymondham, Norfolk and they lived at 2 Meadow Road, Pinner, Middlesex and had one daughter.

Wartime Service

Joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 4 Aug 1906 and was called up on the outbreak of WW1. From Aug to Dec 1914 he served on the Hospital Ship Soudan. After attending a gunnery course he joined the submarine section but was sent to the Dardanelles to assist at the beach landings. He died from acute appendicitis in No. 17 Hospital in Alexandria having been taken ill on the beach during the landings.
