Pre War

Son of Frederick and Katherine (née Harris) and Harry was born in Wellingborough, Northants on the 14th May 1888 and educated at All Saints school in Wellingborough. His mother was the daughter of Henry Harris of Hardingstone, Northants.


After he left school he became a grocers assistant and joining the Herts Yeomanry in May 1915.


The Soldiers Died In The Great War database (SDITGW) records Harry as living in Hertford and enlisted there.

Wartime Service

Formerly 2402 Hertfordshire Yeomanry and was later transferred to the Hertfordshire Regiment in December 1916 and served in France and Flanders from the 24th of December 1916


His commanding officer wrote: “He was instantaneously killed by a shell whilst doing his duty, and made one supreme sacrifice for his King and country. He was a brave man, and will be missed very much indeed by all who knew him.”
