Pre War
Son of Frederick Howard CRESSHULL of Watford, and the late Frances Laura (formerly UPTON, nee ELLSEY) CRESSHULL.
His parents married 28 January 1897 at St Peter’s, Islington, London. Frances died 1906 in the Islington district aged 37, and was buried 2 June in Islington Cemetery. Frederick remarried 1912 in the Islington district to Florence L HOOPER. He died 1919 in the Islington district aged 63, and was buried 20 December, also in Islington Cemetery.
Frank was born 1899 in Islington, and baptised 21 January 1900 at St Paul’s, Islington.
On the 1901 Census, the whole family is proving elusive. On the 1911 Census, at school aged 11 he lived in Islington, with his widowed father and five siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in London, and was formerly Private 1142 9th Battalion Rifle Brigade.
He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 20 May 1915, and was presumed killed in action.
Additional Information
*1 His parents address was given at the time of Frank's death so it is possible that he has no direct connection to this Watford. Unfortunately, Frank’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
