Pre War
Frank Grace was born in Berkhamsted in late 1899, the son of Herbert and Elizabeth Grace and the youngest of five children.
On the 1901 Census the family were living at 71 George Street, Sunnyside, Berkhamsted where his father was working as a labourer at the chemical works. They remained there in 1911 when Frank was an 11 year old scholar.
His parents later moved 143 George Street.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Hertford and was initially posted to the 4th East Surrey Regiment (Reg. No. 37029), later being transferred to the 11th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers.
Frank died of wounds on 25 September 1918, aged 18 and is buried in Bois-Guillaume Cemetery Extension.
Additional Information
His mother received a war gratuity of £3 and pay owing of £9 12s 5d, She also received a pension of 5 shillings a week.
