Son of Elizabeth/Betsy (nee AUSTIN) and the late Alfred WESTIN; husband of Constance (nee BILLINGTON) WESTON.
His parents married 3 January 1874 at St Peter’s, London Colney, Herts. Alfred died 1904 in Watford aged 55, and was buried 14 July in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; Elizabeth died 1937 in Watford aged 85, and was buried 30 December, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Herbert was born 1893 in Watford, and married 1917 in the St George Hanover Square, London, district; they had one child.
On the 1901 Census, aged 8 he lived in Watford, with his parents and seven siblings. On the 1911 Census, a grocer’s assistant aged 17, he still lived in Watford, with his widowed mother and six siblings.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 8 September 1915, and was killed in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Herbert’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
There is a brief article about and a Death announcement for Herbert in the West Herts and Watford Observer dated 22 December 1917.
