He originally attested for the Bedford Militia 10 November 1902 in Watford: a baker’s assistant aged 17, C of E, of Watford. He was discharged as medically unfit 4 May 1903, but re-attested for the Reserve Division of the 4th Bedford Militia 12 October 1903 in Watford: now a labourer aged 17; 5’4″ tall, and passed his medical at Hertford 2 May 1904, joining the Bedfordshire Regiment 18 August 1904.
Son of Sarah Ann CYSTER; husband of Eleanor Lottie (nee BOND) CYSTER.
Sarah died 1944 in the Watford district aged 86.
George was born 1887 in Aston Clinton, Bucks, and married 1911 in the Walsall, Staffs, district; they had three children. He resided in Watford. Eleanor never remarried and died 1972 in the Bingham, Notts, district aged 82.
On the 1891 Census, a scholar aged 4 he lived in Aston Clinton, with his mother and no siblings. On the 1901 Census, a grocer’s errand boy aged 14, he lived in Watford, with his mother and no siblings. On the 1911 Census, a Borough Council navvie aged 24, he lived in Walsall, with his mother and no siblings.
Recorded as born in Aston Clinton, Bucks and was living in Watford when he enlisted there.
Wartime Service
He re-enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914 Star medals, his qualifying date being 16 August 1914, and died of wounds received in action.

Unfortunately, George’s W.W.1 Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
