Pre War
Harry Webber was born in South Melbourne, Victoria, the son of Harry and Isabella Webber.
He was educated at Victoria School, Trinity Church, Launceston, Tasmania and worked as a turner and fitter. He lived with his parents at 99 Gunn Street, Launceston.
Wartime Service
He enlisted on 20 August 1914 as a Sergeant in the 12th Battalion, 'B' Company, having previously served as Sergeant with the 92nd Infantry in Launceston, Tasmania.
His unit embarked from Hobart, Tasmania on board Transport A2 Geelong on 20 October 1914. He was later commissioned as Captain in the 12th Battalion and was Mentioned in Despatches in 1917.
He was killed in action at Zonnebeke, Belgium, on 10 March 1918 age 23.
Additional Information
His father, Mr H T Webber of 99 Gunn Street, Launceston, Tasmania, Australia, ordered his headstone inscription: "A NOBLE SON WHO DID HIS DUTY TO GOD, KING AND PARENTS".
