Charles Edward FULLER was born in Burwell, Cambridgeshire, on 30th September 1887, son of Robert Fuller a Farm Bailiff and Ann Fuller (nee Jaggard) one of their nine children. His parents were married in 1878 in Dullingham, Cambs.
Charles was Baptised on 23rd January 1889, in the Parish of Burwell, Cambs.
1891 census records Charles aged 3, living with his parents, four brothers and sisters Martha (9) and Nellie (5) at Rayners Ditch Farm, Reach Terrace, Burwell, Cambs.
1901 Census, Charles (13), his parents, three brothers and three sisters are how living at The Broads, North Street, Burwell, Cambs. His father is recorded as a Horsekeeper on a Farm.
1911 Census, Charles (23) is employed as a Horsekeeper on a Farm, living with his parents, brother Berty (22), sisters Annie (20) and Alice (17), at the New Buildings, Great Chiswell, Cambs. His father is now a Farm Foreman.
His parents later moved to Smith End, Barley, Royston, Herts.
Wartime Service
Charles enlisted at Bedford, posted to the Bedfordshire Regiment and issued with the service No. 27593.
On completion of his training he was sent to the Western Front, later posted to the Hertfordshire Regiment.
He was Killed in Action during the assault on the railway cutting at Achiet Le Grand on 23rd August 1918, aged 31. He is buried in Achiet Le Grand Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Grave Ref; IV. A. 1.
Additional Information
His effects of £15-07-07, pay owing and his war gratuity £11, went to his mother Ann Fuller.
His mother received a dependents pension 3s/6d, a week from 11th March 1919, the pension card records his mother’s address as The Chequers, Barley, Cambs.
His brother Guardsman 11012 John William Fuller of the Grenadier Guards was Killed in Action on 14th September 1916.
