Pre War

George Henry Warren was born in 1892 in Northchurch, Herts, the son of Walter and Ann Warren and educated at the Victoria School, Northchurch, Berkhamsted.


On the 1901 Census, the family were living at 89 George Street, Northchurch, nr. Great Berkhamsted, and his father was working as a Stationary Engine Driver. They remained there in 1911 Census and George was working as a general labourer.


He was formerly employed at Coopers, a mill producing sheep dip and other powders. 


His parents later lived at 46 George Street. Berkhamsted

Wartime Service

He enlisted at Ampthill, Beds and served with the 6th Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment. 


He served for 16 months at the front but died in a hospital in Weymouth from a gunshot wound. 

Additional Information

His mother received a war gratuity of £3 and pay owing of £8 3s 11d.
