Pre War

Edward Charles Frost was born in 1878 to William Frost, farm labourer, and Harriet (nee Cage).


On the 1881 Census the family of parents, William A (born 1874), Arthur J (born 1876), Edward and George T (born 1880) were living at East Barton Cottages, Great Barton, Thingoe, Suffolk.


On the 1891 Census the family of parents, William, Arthur, Edward  & George (all farm  in Malta in ), Harriet E (domestic servant born 1877), Harriet A (born 1882), Alfred(born 1885), Robert (born 1885), Ellen (born 1886) and Benjamin (born 1890) were living at Easr Barton, Thingoe, Suffolk.


Edward enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers as Private 6689 on 15 Sep 1898. After his training with 3rd Battalion he was posted to 1st Battalion and served in Malta, Gibraltar, India returning to UK on 28 Nov 1905. He was placed on Army Reserve on 14 Sep 1910.


On the 1901 Census the family of Edward’s parents with Alfred, Benjamin, Alice (born 1893) and Peter (born 1985)were living in East Barton, Suffolk. On the 1911 Census the family of parents, Alfred, Alice and peter were living at the Street,, Great Barton, Suffolk.


His parents later lived at 25, Wingrove Rd., New Mill, Tring, Herts.

Wartime Service

At the outbreak of the Great War or soon after Edward volunteered joining the Suffolk Regiment as Private 20361.


No Service Record was found for Edward but he was posted to 2nd Battalion going to join the Battalion(part of 3 Brigade 3 Division) near Ypres on 3 Aug 1915. The Division took part in the 2nd Attack on Bellewaarde 25-26 Sep 1915. Edward was reported killed in action on 30 Sep 1915. His remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £3 and arrears of £4 6s 0d was paid to his father.
