Arthur Aleck/Alick/Alec Frost was born in 1889, son of Frederick Frost (1867-1930) and Emmelyn Lonsdale Frost (1866-1923) (nee Burton). One of five children, Hedley 1889, Bert/Bertie 1894, Wilfred 1900 and Winifred 1907.
1891 Census records Arthur aged 1, he was a visitor with his parents and brother Hedley 2, at St Anns Road, Luton, Beds.
1901 Census records Arthur aged 11, living with his parents, brothers Hedley 12, Bertie 6, and Wilfred 10 months, at 50, New Town Street, Luton, Beds.
1911 Census records Arthur (known as Artie) aged 21, working in a straw hat factory, living with his parents, brothers Hedley 22, Bert 17, Wilfred 11 and sister Winifred 4, at 82, Park Road West, Luton, Beds.
Wartime Service
Arthur enlisted at Bedford, in October 1914, and posted to the 1st/1st East Anglian Field Coy, Royal Engineers, with the service number 1663. Arriving in France on 7th April 1915, Arthur was Killed in Action eleven weeks later when an artillery shell landed on a group of East Anglian Royal Engineers.
This is possible the A. A. Frost on the Oxhey Memorials and Luton Great War Roll of Honour.
Additional Information
His father, Mr. F. Frost, 82, Park Road, West, Luton, Beds. ordered his headstone inscription: "REST IN PEACE". The value of his effects were £5-14s-2d, Pay Owing and £3, War Gratuity which went to his Farther Frederick. His mother Emmelyn received a dependents pension of 5/- a week.
