Henry Freeman was born in Luton, Bedfordshire according to SDGW but without further information has not been located on Census returns. He had a brother George and sister Bertha and was living at St Pancras, Middlesex at the time of enlistment.
(Possibly Albert Henry Freeman born 1884, son of Alfred and Annie Freeman of Luton. He was living with widowed mother Annie Freeman, and siblings George and Bertha, on 1891 Census at 45 Bute Street, Luton, where his mother was a licensed victualler. She died in 1896 in Luton and on the 1901 Census, he was living with uncle and aunt Alfred and Elizabeth Barrett at 111 Guildford Street, Luton and working as a foundry labourer. Bertha Freeman was living in St Pancras in 1911.)
Wartime Service
He enlisted in Walham Green, Middlesex and joined the Bedfordshire Regiment. He served in France from 2 February 1915 with the 1st Battalion and was part of a draft of 60 which joined the Battalion in the field on 8 February near Bailleul.
He was killed in action on 19 April 1915 during the Second Battle of Ypres when they were in action at Hill 60. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
Additional Information
A war gratuity of £3 and pay owing of £4 8s 1d was divided between his brother George and sister Bertha.
