Pre War

Selina Ann Kentish married Walter Thomas Waller in Mortlake in 1893 and their son Thomas George Waller, was born in 1895 in Harefield. Another son William Walter Waller was born in 1897.

In 1901 Thomas, aged 5, was living at Copper Mill, Harefield with his  grandfather, George Kentish, and his family. In 1911 he was still  living with them at the Dumb Bell, Hornhill, Chalfont St Peter, along  with his 2 half cousins, David and Richard Kentish who were also  killed in the WW1 and commemorated on West Hyde Memorial.

In 1901 and 1911 Thomas’s mother, Selina was working as a servant  at 13 Cathcart Road, Kensington and his brother, William, was  living in Chesham with relations. In 1901, his father was living at  the Bull Inn, Chelsham, Surrey, stating that he was a widower. In 1911 was living in Croydon with his wife, Isabella and daughter,  Cissie, having apparently been married for 7 years. In 1939 Selina Ann Waller was living with her son Walter at Cowley Mill Rd, Uxbridge.

Wartime Service

Thomas Waller enlisted at High Wycombe but the date of enlistment is not known.

The Arras memorial commemorates nearly 35 000 servicemen who died in this area between spring 1916 and August 1918.

It is not known for certain, but it is likely that Thomas was killed in action during the German spring offensive of 1918.
