Wartime Service
Enlisted Royal Canadian Engineers on 27 Dec 1915 in Vancouver.
10 Mar 1916 he embarked with his unit for France.
He was killed in action on 2 Jun 1916 near Mount Sorrel. The battle of Mt. Sorrel was a Canadian defensive action which lasted from 2 Jun -16 Jun 1916 and thousands of men were killed or wounded. They lost the position. From 13 Jun 1916 supported by British troops the Canadians retook and held the position.
Additional Information
Back pay and gratuities totalling $C144 and a pension were paid to Ethel, pension amount not recorded. She later also received £642 12s 10d from his estate. She remained in England after the war. Their son Keith Langler Ford joined the Royal Marines in WW2 and died on 19 Dec 1941 A memorial cross was awarded to both Ethel and Robert's mother, Susan Ford Lt R.B. Ford is listed on Kensal Rise Memorial
