Pre War

Born on 5 Oct 1872 and baptised on 26 Oct 1872 in Trichinopoly, Madras, India son of Lt. Gen. Bowes Lennox Forster R.A. and Jessie Kate Forster. Educated at the United Services College 1886-89 and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant Royal Warwickshire regiment in 1893. Served in the Nile expedition 1898 and in the South African War 1899-1902. He married Margaret Ethel Gilchrist on 15 Nov 1902 in Madras, India.

Wartime Service

Entered France on 4 Oct 1914 with the 7th Bn. Royal Warwickshires and eventually commanded it. He was wounded twice and was awarded DSO in 1917. In Aug 1917 he commanded 42nd Infantry Brigade. On 4 Apr 1918 near Hamel the Brigade HQ was only 500 yards behind the front line and was overrun by the enemy and surrounded. Brig Gen Forster initially escaped but was reported missing presumed dead.

Additional Information

United Services College, Westward Ho, Devon amalgamated with Imperial Service College in Windsor in 1912 and then moved to Haileybury College, Hertford Heath in 1942.
