Pre War

Alfred was born in 1885 in Flamstead to David Flitton, Farm Labourer, and Elizabeth (nee White), a straw plaiter.


On the 1891 Census Alfrred was living at Pye Corner, Flamstead with his Father, Mother, brothers Henry,  John, and sisters Elizabeth, Rose. On the 1901 Census still at Pye Corner with Father, Mother, John, and sisters Rose, Ellen (Nelly), and Daisy, Alfred was working as a carter on a farm. On the 1911 Census the family (Father, Mother, Alfred, John, Ellen and Daisy) were at Pye Corner.

Wartime Service

Alfred enlisted as Private 27423, Bedfordshire Regiment and later was transferred to Labour Corps 693rd Agricultural Coy as Private 509638. No details are available as no Service Record is available.


He died on 1 Nov 1918 in the Military Hospital, Aylesbury, Bucks, and is buried in St Laurence Church yard, Flamstead.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £6 5s and arrears of £14 3s 4d was paid to his mother.
