Son of David William and Elizabeth Ann (nee GUSTERSON) FLINT of Watford.
His parents married 26 October 1878 at St Michael’s, St Alban’s, Herts. Elizabeth died 1924 in Watford aged 67, and was buried 29 April in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford; David died 20 July 1932 in Watford aged 72, and was buried 23 July, also in Vicarage Road Cemetery.
Alfred was born 19 April 1887 in Watford, and baptised 6 May 1887 at St Mary’s, Watford. He attended first St Andrew’s Infants’ School, Watford; then Beechen Grove Board School, Watford, from 5 February to 12 April 1894 [sic]; then St Andrew’s Boys’ School from 10 April 1894 [sic] to 31 May 1895; finally back to Beechen Grove Board School from 4 June 1895. He resided in Watford.
On the 1891 Census, aged 4 he lived in Watford, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1901 Census, an errand boy aged 14, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and seven siblings. On the 1911 Census, a delivery porter aged 23, he was a boarder in London W.C.
Wartime Service
He enlisted in St Pancras, London; was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 31 May 1915, and was presumed killed in action.
Additional Information
Unfortunately, Alfred’s Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.
